Pack Rules & Odds
Last updated: 12 September 2026
These rules explain exactly how Ripstead Packs work. They form part of our Terms of Service.
1. What's in a Pack
Every Pack contains exactly one collectible trading card (a "Collectible").
- Slab Packs contain a professionally graded card, graded by an independent grading company such as PSA, BGS, CGC or SGC. Each is a specific item identified by its grading company and certification number.
- Raw Packs (the cheapest Packs, marked "Raw") contain an ungraded card, inspected by us and listed only if we judge it Near Mint or better. Each is a specific item identified by our intake number. Its condition is our own assessment, not a grade.
2. Pack styles and rarity tiers
You choose a Pack style before opening. The style you choose is shown on the Pack page and recorded with every result.
- Normal has five rarity tiers: Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary and Grail.
- High ("high volatility") adds a sixth tier, Common, below Uncommon. It has a lower minimum value and a higher chance of a Grail, but a lower chance of the tiers in between. Over many Packs, a High Pack's average pull is usually lower than a Normal Pack's.
Each tier covers a range of Listed Values, set as a multiple of the Pack's price, and has a fixed probability for each style. The current tiers, value ranges and probabilities for every Pack and style are shown:
- in the table at the bottom of this page;
- in each Pack's odds view (the ⓘ button on the Pack).
Grail tier. The Grail tier reaches up to 10 times the Pack's price. Grail Collectibles are not spread evenly across that range: most sit toward the bottom, and the most valuable are the fewest. Below each Pack's table we show how the Grail Collectibles in its box are currently split by value.
If we change a Pack's odds, the change applies only to Packs opened after it is published.
3. How a result is chosen
When you open a Pack, our server:
- draws a random number using a cryptographically secure random number generator;
- uses that number to select a rarity tier, according to the tier probabilities of the Pack style you chose; then
- selects one Collectible, with equal probability, from all Collectibles currently in that Pack's box within that tier's value range.
Pack boxes. Each Pack draws from its own box of Collectibles, shown on the Pack page as a counter (for example "312 / 500"). Each time a Pack is opened, the Collectible awarded leaves the box, and the counter goes down. The box never changes the tier probabilities: it only determines which Collectibles each tier can award.
- When a box can't cover a purchase, or has just run out, we load a new box automatically from our general stock, and the counter shows the new box.
- Collectibles sold back to us return to our general stock, not to the box they came from.
- We may also add Collectibles to a box, or remove them, for example to restock or to take a damaged item out. The counter always shows what is actually in the box.
Results are generated only on our servers, at the moment of opening. We never adjust odds for individual players, and we never change a result after a Pack is opened.
We aim to keep every tier of every box stocked. If a tier temporarily has no Collectibles in the box, we award the available Collectible whose Listed Value is closest to the middle of that tier's range. That Collectible may fall outside the tier's range. The Pack's displayed odds and average pull already take this into account. We record every result with the time it was generated, the Pack, the style and the Collectible awarded, and keep these records so results can be audited.
4. Listed Values
A Collectible's Listed Value is our good-faith estimate of its fair market value, based on recent sales and price data from third-party marketplaces and price guides (PriceCharting, which tracks completed sales on eBay and other marketplaces for the same card, grade and grading company (for Raw Cards, ungraded sales)). Listed Values are reviewed at least once a month.
The average pull shown for each Pack and style is the exact average Listed Value of one Pack, calculated from that style's tier probabilities and the Collectibles currently in each tier. It is usually less than the Pack's price. That difference is how Ripstead covers the cost of cards, storage, insurance and running the Service.
5. Keeping, selling back and shipping
- Keep: the Collectible is yours, and stays in your Vault, stored and insured at no cost to you.
- Sell back: you can sell a Collectible back to us at any time, with no deadline. You receive 97% of its Listed Value (at the rate in force when you pulled it) as Sell-Back Credit. The price is shown before you confirm and is final once confirmed.
- Ship (available at launch): you receive the exact Collectible from your Vault, subject to verification and the shipping fees shown before you confirm. Raw Cards ship together once those you ask us to ship are worth at least $25 in total.
6. Final sale
Pack purchases are final once a Pack is opened. See our Terms of Service for how we handle technical errors.
7. Current odds
The table below is generated automatically from the live Pack configuration, so it always matches what the pull engine uses.
